Council approves $7 million loan

20/08/2008 11:30:00 PM
Council approved a 15 year loan of $7 million from the Local Government Finance Authority.

The cash advance is to meet financial commitments to the value of $11 million at the Land Fill site and Industrial Park.

The council expects costs to be covered by land sales at the Industrial site but needs the advance to cover the time lag between construction and receipt of income.

Councillor Gunter Scheide asked to add to the motion that "all major projects over $500,000 be reported on a regular basis to council and that a monthly financial draw down report be also reported to council on a monthly basis."

Mr Scheide voiced a concern that reporting for major projects is lacking.

"Our reporting could be improved across the board.

"It's about time we realise major projects should have a financial report council receives, whether monthly, quarterly whatever.

"I'd like to think we wouldn't be too worried about the pencils and biros but the high cost items and that these are dealt with in a timely manner."

Deputy Mayor Eddie Hughes asked the meeting if all the sales were locked in.

"We have done contracts up on them all and are currently chasing deposits," development services group manager Stewart Payne said.

"As far as I'm aware yes they are - there has been no information to the contrary.

"I think we can be pretty sure that eventually they will bear fruit."
