Sporting and recreational clubs in Whyalla have been asked to take advantage of the $11 million grant made available by the State Government to organisations that need money.
The government released a new tool last week to make applications for recreation and sport grants more accessible and user friendly.
The Recreation and Sport Funding Handbook mirrors online access information and outlines grant programs available.
The handbook will be distributed to state sporting and recreation organisations, Local Government and all state parliamentary electoral offices in coming weeks.
Mayor Jim Pollock said organisations in small regional towns should take advantage of such fundings and put in their application.
He said the council would assist where possible in making submissions
Recreation and Sport Minister Michael Wright said the government has distributed $53 million to more than 3000 recreation and sport organisations since 2002.
“This financial year alone, more than $11 million in grant funding is available to community-based active recreation and sporting organisations, peak industry bodies and local government,” Mr Wright said.
“We are constantly looking for ways to make life easier for those organisations delivering projects and programs to the Recreation and Sports sector and this new initiative will do that.
“This is another example of the important role the Office for Recreation and Sport plays in assisting sporting clubs and peak organisations to provide quality sports programs and services to the South Australian community.
“This in turn boosts physical activity levels and encourages more people to lead healthy, active lifestyles.”
The handbook provides detailed information on the five grants programs available to sporting organisations:
· Active Club Program - supports projects from community-based recreation and sport groups to develop and expand their services, and increase access to quality activities and facilities.
Applications for this program are currently open and close on May 19.
· Community Recreation and Sports Facilities Program - supports projects from community-based organisations and Local Government to assist with upgrading or developing sporting facilities.
· Inclusive Recreation, Inclusive Sport - creates and maintains opportunities for people with a disability to participate in physical activity.
· Move It! Making Communities Active Program - assists projects aimed at changing lifestyles over the longer term by supporting inactive people to become active.
