A Whyalla resident has spent the night in freezing conditions near eight-mile beach amid fears for his safety and well-being.
The 40-year-old man's family reported him missing early on Tuesday night.
Whyalla Police Senior Sergeant Andrew Bartlett said concerns were raised for the man's welfare following communications the man made with family and friends.
"Police initially conducted a search, which proved unsuccessful," Sergeant Bartlett said.
"We then sought the assistance of the SES who conducted a more thorough search but still couldn't find him."
The search was suspended at 11.30pm Tuesday while further information about his whereabouts was obtained.
"The police chopper was utilised this morning (Wednesday) to search scrub-land around the Whyalla area," Sergeant Bartlett said.
The helicopter spotted the man's vehicle and landed beside it shortly before 11am.
SAPOL requested SA Ambulance collect the man from the scene.
"There were no physical injuries reported, he was just a little worked up and was conveyed to the Whyalla Hospital for assessment," SA Ambulance media officer Jodie O'Dea said.
Sergeant Bartlett commended the SES for their help in locating the man.
"Local police rely on SES members in these sorts of situations on a regular basis," he said.
"It's a great job they do which allows us to perform our core function when they step in and assist us."
