An average income earner is barely left with much in his pocket at the end of a week if they spend more than $100 on fuel and a few more dollars on the general running of their car.

A group of workers from the Mount Laura landfill spoke to the Whyalla News, saying they were happy about the fight for fuel campaign but were pessimistic that something positive would come out of it.

Brian Singleton said he spent $125 on fuel each week because he was the only driver in his family and ended up driving everyone around.

He said after paying for food, bills and rent he would be lucky to have $50 in his pocket at the end of the week.

Another worker at the landfill, Erika Kelly, said it was no use complaining because nothing would be done.

She said the price has always been high in Whyalla and wished the Whyalla News all the best in the fight.

Gavan Boehm said a lot of families struggled to fill in their cars and were forced to cut back on other essential expenses.

He said due to lack of regular public transport families had to have a car with enough fuel to do all the running around.
