Roos take on Demons in must win game

27/06/2008 11:11:00 AM
Sunday at Bennett Oval will see Roopena take on South Whyalla in what is a must win game for the Roos.

A loss could see them lose touch with second spot; a win keeps them in the running.

Injuries to key position players have taken their toll over the past two games but the reality is they have been in a match-winning position at three quarter time in their recent games but have lost both, which is disappointing given all the hard work for no premiership points.

This Sunday will be no different.

Even if injured players do return it will be a difficult task to knock over the Demons who at the moment, along with Wests, are the best side in town.

Roopena of late have struggled up forward but in all other areas have been good.

However, it is very hard to win when you are only kicking eight goals a game, especially when you are coming up against a Demons outfit scoring 20 plus goals a game of late.

Roos forward line must make it happen if they are to threaten.

Their midfield continues to work hard in the backline where Kane Grund has been in great touch and has been keeping their opposition to beatable scores.

The bright light has been the good form of Theologou and new recruit Laughton who seem to be getting better with each game.

How Roos coach Kelly matches up on the South forwards of Colson, Reid, Jackson and co will be critical to the outcome.

South may be without the services of the in-form Baker, Troy Miller and Matt Perry. All three are quality players but a confident Demon outfit will not be deterred as they are playing their best football to date.

Testament to that is they have kicked seventy goals in the past three weeks.

Roopena, regardless of who plays, can go into this game confident of their form, either winning or losing has been consistent.

The pressure they apply and the tackling on opposition teams has been good and if they do this for four quarters they can still pinch a win.

Once again Fiebig, Elliot and old timer Jeff Ewings will be relied upon to continue their good form and take the game to the talented Demon midfield.

If this happens and the likes of Zucker and the experienced Dale Williams get amongst the goals, and Hannemann continues his good form at centre half forward a much needed two premierships points is a chance.
