South annihilate the Tigers

27/06/2008 11:04:00 AM
In true footy conditions on Saturday at Bennett Oval the Tigers came out roaring but were reduced to a purr as South took control to win by 122 points.

The Bays got things rolling with an early goal but Captain Baker hit back to level the scores.

The young tiger cubs were having a real crack through Malcolm, Dale Gericke and Lee Ringland, winning plenty of the ball.

With a goal to the hard-working Christian Hines and a strong grab and goal by Dale ‘The Gherkin’ Gericke, all of a sudden the Bays led by six points.

Jarod Reid was playing a lone hand up forward for South kicking two first quarter goals to keep the Dees in touch.

A goal to Malcolm just on quarter time gave the Bay an unexpected six point lead.

The mercurial Dwayne Colson got proceedings underway in the second term, calmly slotting on through from 45 metres.

A few errors started to creep into the game as both teams started to turn the ball over, with the exception of Dwayne Colson, snapping truly from the pocket for his third, giving the Dees a six point buffer.

Mr Ed Wilson had been kept quiet by Ryan Wingfield but stepped up a gear to kick two second quarter goals, as Souths started to take control.

Dwayne Colson got his fourth and a Guy Sultan long bomb just on half-time gave the Demons a handy six goal lead.

After half-time it was the Dwayne Colson/Jarod Reid show, kicking five third quarter goals between them to give the Demons a commanding 48 point lead going into the last quarter.

South looked like they were coasting for three quarters and put the pedal down to slam on seven last quarter goals to give them a 122 point victory.

Two early goals to Peter Jackson, and then a goal of the year contender from Buckskin, as he moonwalked along the boundary to snap truly as South went into party mode.

Dwayne Colson was awesome up forward, treating the Demons to a Motlop type performance kicking eight.

Jarod Reid was equally as damaging kicking six.

Jimmy Martin was Diesel Williams-like in the centre, Baker was all class, Guy Sultan was tough and hard and ran the lines. Col Sims was creative off half back and Ray McIntosh was Ray.

For the Tigers, Dale Gericke, James Gruitt, Nathan Bone and Ryan Wingfield gave their all.

After a few lean years the Demons are starting to get their own back and as for the Bays they need to keep working hard and have a go and they will be up there before we know it.
