Fog keeps golfers away

16/05/2008 10:44:00 AM
Brilliant weather again for golf on both days of the weekend, although the early morning fog on Sunday seems to have dampened the enthusiasm of the casual golfers, and perhaps Mother’s Day had some influence.

Saturday’s Peter Kittel Toyota Four Ball Better Ball versus Stableford was won by the duo of Rick Molyneux and Darryl Callaghan, five points clear of the field with 51 stableford points from Alan Phillips and Terry Pollock 46.

Ball winners were G Hawes/D Priess, R Grimm/W McGovern, S Darby/D Birdseye 45, S Boundy/B Cotter, G Downing/P Gogoll, F Verdoorn/M Lee, D Mintern/P Riley, K Crameri/M Gordon 43.

Nearest the pin was Steve Darby 2.3m from G Downing 6.15m, D Priess 8.9m, S Aspey 9.75m, K Crameri 10.7m and A Best 10.8m.

Winners in the birdie competition were A Worden on the seventh, none on the ninth, R Grimm on the thirteenth and S Darby on the eighteenth for five balls each.

Sunday’s stroke round was won by Keith James with a 68 nett from Barry McLean 71, Dave Green 75 and Bernie McIntyre 76 on a count back and Roy Hillam was nearest the pin at 4.3m.

Next Saturday will be the Cunningham Yap and Hardman Monthly Medal and is also the second round of the Eclectic and on Sunday a Mixed Ambrose, please check the starter’s sheet for details.

The Eclectic is still open to new entries from those that missed out and there are seven rounds in total for this event.

The Action Engineering Corporate Weekend information and starters sheets are up on the notice board.

The events are scheduled for the long weekend in June.

Junior golf

Not as many juniors out on Sunday with both Mother’s Day and the early morning fog.

The tykes practiced putting on the very dewy practice putting green and some were concerned that we wouldn’t be able to play the eighteenth, but we did and the result was a bogie four with Christopher playing some great shots.

The oldies played the front nine with Ben Aspey blitzing on a 29 nett from Adam Dennis on 39.

Juniors will be on this Sunday starting at 9am, be there, and there is no charge.

Children, ladies and gentlemen try golf

We would love to have you play golf with us, come talk to us about membership and playing golf socially or competition golf.

Our handicaps range from near scratch right out, we don’t expect anyone to be world’s best, just interested in playing golf.

Please come out and check out our brilliant course and top class facilities. It all gets better every week, entirely volunteer driven.

Basic lessons at no cost on Sundays at around 10.30am, contact Gary Barnard 8645 3245 or just turn up, no equipment required just comfortable clothing and footwear.
