South versus North in match of the round

9/05/2008 2:39:00 PM
It’s been a long time since North and South have been billed as the match of the round.

That will be the case this Friday evening when the two sides meet at Bennett Oval in what should be a thrilling contest.

The Pies coming off a great victory over Central will be brimming with confidence.

They were great last week.

Their run and use of the football, their kicking into the forward line to gun full forward Prokopec was excellent, and the big man did not let them down.

Bagging a casual nine goals in what was an exhilarating display of aerial brilliance, precise kicking, capped off at times with a touch of brute force.

There was a lot to like about Norths’ last week but one win does not make a winner.

They must string winning games together, the boys from Beach Road will be a hard nut to crack.

Goals will be a lot harder to find at Bennett Oval in a night game, it will be so important for the likes of Clothier, Trezise, Beaty and Menzies to get forward and contribute to the scoreboard.

Other than shocking kicking last week, where at times they were that bad they missed planet Earth, the Demons are travelling very well.

Former Whyalla News Medallist Brad Page is getting better with each game.

His clash with Preiss in ruck will be vital to ensure what side gets first use of the ball.

South’s forward line is capable of kicking a big score, their midfield will always get enough ball, it may well depend on how well they use it.

I do hope both coaches allow their sides to play if this is the case this could well be a shoot out.

Souths can move the ball so quick and have pace to burn but if their kicking boot deserts them this week it will be costly.

In the past two weeks North have made great improvement, this will be a test of how much they have improved when they come up against an in-form Demon outfit.

Once again this game will be full of anticipation and should be a great contest and given what will be on display worthy of a bumper crowd.

Souths just - maybe North just - maybe a draw!
