Golfers punished by weather

Saturday’s windy weather was absolutely no help to golfers, with scores blowing out severely and numbers a little lower than usual for the Elders Insurance Monthly Medal round.

Ball winners went right out to 80 nett.

Bill McGovern with nett 69 was strokes ahead of the rest of the field winning C grade from Alec Connor 71, Phil Gogoll 74 won A grade from Brett Boswell 75 and Brian Page 77 won B grade from Derek Siwek 78 on a count back.

Ball winners were W Clarkson 74, G McGuiness 75, G Downing, P Armes 76, G Palmer, M Taylor, L Wyatt, D Jacobs, J Croall 78, T Gorman, J Milne, G Worsnop 79, Val Callaghan, K Arlott and D Finch 80 on a multi-way count back.

Nearest the pin was Brett Boswell 2.3m from P Gogoll 6.6m, J Milne 7.4m, Val Callaghan 8.2m, M Taylor 9.2m and D Thorpe 9.45m.

Birdies in the birdie competition were had by J Croall and S Payne on the seventh, G Worsnop, D Thorpe and G Palmer on the ninth, none on the thirteenth and B Boswell canned his putt on the eighteenth.

After two rounds of the Tollhurst Noall 72 Hole were played Bret Boswell 152 is leading from Matt Taylor 164 with Dannie Jacobs 180 leading B grade from Niel Simpson 191 and leading C grade Alec Connor 189 from Julian Milne 201.

After four rounds of the Eclectic out of the seven now played Dannie Jacobs leads with 58 nett from Bernie McIntyre 62.

Off the stick Brett Boswell leads with 68 from Charlie Agett and Dannie Jacobs both on 75.

The Continental Corner NAGA was won by Bernie McIntyre nett 94 on a four way count back.

Sunday’s Stableford round was won by Charlie Agett 36 from Peter Butterfield 35 and Allan Howell 30 and Charlie Agett was also nearest the pin at 5.87m

Next Saturday and Sunday will be the qualifying rounds of the Alliance One Credit Union Club Championships.

Junior Golf

The tykes practiced shots on the chipping green, with Clint Agett teaching some of the finer points and playing chip and run shots right through to lob shots.

They then played the eighteenth from the ladies tee.

Juniors will be on this Sunday starting at 9 am, be there, and there is no charge.
