Bushwalkers find body on the Gold Coast

21/07/2008 6:33:49 AM

The body of a woman found in bushland on the Gold Coast is believed to be that of missing woman Kate Mooney, 60.

Two bushwalkers found the body covered by scrub and lantana off a track at Wangawallen, near Mount Tambourine, on Saturday, just a few hundred metres from the spot where Ms Mooney's abandoned Hyundai Accent was found more than three weeks ago.

The Brisbane piano teacher, of Coorparoo, was reported missing exactly one month ago, on June 21, when she failed to arrive at her brother's house on the Gold Coast as planned.

"Positive identification is still to be confirmed," a police media spokesman said this morning.

An autopsy will also be conducted.

Ms Mooney's family made an emotional plea for her return on June 24, revealing she had suffered a severe bout of depression.

The spokesman said relatives had been notified of the weekend discovery.
