The Editor,
It is encouraging to see Deputy Mayor Eddie Hughes take a leadership role in urging the council to take a stand over Lowly (Whyalla News, July 3).
His, as usual, well researched alternatives outlines clearly a win, win for all and support from OneSteel would gain great appreciation and good PR from the Whyalla Community.
I appeal to the wider community to also show your support.
I am sure there are many who were delighted to read that Lyn Breuer declared plainly we are having a desal plant.
The Federal Member does not demonstrate the same determination.
Potable water is a must for industry and the people of Eyre Peninsula - see The Advertiser, Monday More heat, More pain.
Thank you Eddie, thank you Lyn for leadership.
Additional thoughts: Mention desal and you will, as we say open a can of worms the arguments from both sides are powerful.
Without water pumped from Morgan the Eyre Peninsula would not be as we know it.
If we do not have a secure water supply I shudder to think of the consequences.
Here is my mad idea.
Build a pipeline from here to the salt lakes in the north and pump unwanted saline water.
I think I read it was in NSW prisoners were used for out door work which allowed them to acquire skills for their rehabilitation and more than likely they enjoyed this better than the alternative.
Perhaps the Editor could ask for others with made ideas and who knows?
