Volunteers should not have to pay

Volunteers should not have to pay

The editor,

I am disappointed and do not agree with the Whyalla Hospital Auxillary's policy of insisting that volunteers pay an annual fee.

For the past few years I have enjoyed working as a Pink Lady at the hospital where I am called in when needed as a relief.

Last week I recieved a phone call informing me that I could no longer work as a Pink Lady as my fee had not been paid.

I would have been working three days straight this week for other ladies who were not available.

They have no ladies for these days so surely the hospital and paitents are going to miss out.

I have done volunteer work for several years at Amaroo Lodge, Whyalla Aged Care, Council Home Assist Program, ( to name a few) and have never been asked to pay anything.

I consider that giving my time to them as a volunteer is quite sufficient without having to pay an annual fee.

Surely this is not a good way to encourage volunteers.

Whyalla Norrie.
